About Me
breath air soul life
good honest brave noble kind pleasant right
For over 25 years, I have been a tai chi enthusiast. It's hard to quantify all the benefits tai chi brings to my life, but it's easy to attribute my strength and balance, my calmer, happier state of mind, and my general state of good health to tai chi.
My Tai Chi Journey
My journey began at a local continuing education class at a time when I was returning to full-time work. I wanted to find an activity to balance my busy, fast-paced days, and tai chi was a perfect fit. It was fun, I was moving, and the cares of the day fell away. And I met the nicest people!
The years have taken me through many forms and families of tai chi, with their own trials and triumphs. Much of the time, the moves are simple enough, but can be challenging to coordinate. There is a special satisfaction in conquering a difficult move through practice and persistence. It's empowering!
I am a fervent proponent of qigong in its many styles and variations. I move at the speed of my breath - a slow, deep inhale to expand my lung capacity, and then a long, slow exhale, through pursed lips, to engage the calming parasympathetic nervous system. There are movements, and there is imagery, and then a smile spreads across my face and I am blissful.
Training
I have studied with sifus and master trainers who have deepened my practice and nurtured my journey. Each has imparted wisdom and shared insights to make me the devoted practitioner I am today. My heart is filled to overflowing.
Some of the forms I have learned and played:
Bare-handed Forms in Yang, Sun, Wu, Palm, Liu He Ba Fa, Bafa Wubu, Wudang
Straight Sword (Yang 32, Wu), Bang (Ruler, 8 Immortal Flute), Stick (Whip, Dongyue), Broad Sword (learning)
TCHI: Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention, Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Rehabilitation
Qigong: Yin Yang, Shibashi, Eight Brocade, Shaolin Luohan 13, and many, many others
Credentials
I became certified to teach tai chi and qigong to share the simple joy of movement, balance, and clarity. It is immensely gratifying to see others take pleasure and pride in their tai chi.
I am certified by Dr. Paul Lam at the Tai Chi for Health Institute, and by Sifu Anthony Grimaldi at New Moon Tai Chi.
My Passion
As I continue learning new forms and deepening my own tai chi practice, I find new purpose and delight in teaching others.
My life, my health, and my happiness are all enriched by the slow, controlled, calming movements of tai chi.
